As indicated by the name, we are located on the rim of the Great Basin, right in the heart of the Wild West. With Promontory Summit (the site of the 1869 completion of the Transcontinental Railroad) right on our doorstep we are immersed in a rich railroad heritage.
You’ve probably seen our work elsewhere – we have done graphic design for ExactRail, Bonsall Scale Car Shops, Bitter Creek Models, Zenith Model Works, Lambert Locomotive Works, Studio346, and others.
In 2020 with a nudge from a relative we founded Great Basin Car Shops to fill the void left by decal makers that had shut down in recent years. We are standing on the shoulders of giants – with the loss of such suppliers as Art Griffin Decals, model railroaders struggled to find good, high-quality decals for their 19th century and early 20th century models.
Armed with a history degree and certifications in Adobe software, we set out into what was supposedly a niche market and discovered a vibrant and enthusiastic model building community. After selling exclusively by email for a few years, in 2023 we partnered with 3Dp Train to bring our decals to the e-commerce world, and the entire Great Basin Car Shops product line can now be ordered online through that platform.
All Great Basin Car Shops decals are printed on high quality thin-film water slide decal paper. Order at 3dptrain.com
